The latest data shows that as of the end of 2023, China's remaining technically recoverable oil reserves were 3.85 billion tons, an increase of 1% compared to 2022; the remaining technically recoverable natural gas reserves were 668.347 billion cubic meters, an increase of 1.7% compared to 2022; and the remaining technically recoverable shale gas reserves were 551.61 billion cubic meters. In 2023, the newly discovered proven geological reserves of coalbed methane increased by 317.93 billion cubic meters, among which the newly discovered technically recoverable reserves increased by 161.34 billion cubic meters, an increase of 712.1% compared to the previous year.
