The 2nd Innovation Forum on Sustainable Development of Building Structures was held in Urumqi, Xinjiang
On June 8-10, 2023, the "Second Innovation Forum for Sustainable Development of Building Structures" was successfully held in Urumqi, co hosted by 5 units including the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region Survey and Design Association and co organized by 7 units. Nearly 300 engineering and technical personnel from real estate, design, scientific research, construction, and drawing review units from all over the country, including academicians, national engineering survey and design masters, chief engineers of design institutes, and expert professors, participated in this grand event.
The opening ceremony of this year was presided over by Zhou Jian, Chief Structural Engineer of Huajian Group and Chief Structural Engineer of East China Architectural Design and Research Institute Co., Ltd. Gao Haibo, a second level inspector of the Housing and Urban Rural Development Department of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, and Shen Lidong, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and President of East China Construction Group Co., Ltd., respectively delivered speeches on behalf of the main organizing unit at the opening ceremony.
In their opening speeches, they mentioned that in the current context of carbon peak and carbon neutrality, building structural forms are becoming increasingly complex and design requirements are constantly improving. Technological innovation is an inevitable path to explore sustainable development; At the same time, emerging technologies in building structures have also driven new developments in building forms, placing greater emphasis on the requirements for technology and quality. Through continuous innovation in structural technology, improving the safety, functionality, and aesthetics of buildings, and achieving more reasonable, economical, and sustainable architectural works, is the historical mission of contemporary engineering and technical personnel.
On the day of the academic newspaper, a total of 20 wonderful reports were given by academicians, masters, chief engineers of design institutes, experts and professors, covering new concepts of sustainable development, aesthetic understanding and engineering practice in building structure design, underground space development technology and application, seismic isolation technology in high-intensity near fault areas, etc. The content was very rich, including the latest research results on sustainable development of building structures in recent years, as well as case introductions of major engineering projects.
On the morning of June 10th, the conference team organized guests and representatives to visit the T4 terminal and "Transportation Center" of Urumqi International Airport together. The T4 terminal of Urumqi International Airport was originally designed by East China Architectural Design and Research Institute Co., Ltd. The terminal building is themed around the "Silk Road Tianshan Mountains", with the main building's undulating roof symbolizing the "Tianshan Mountains". The strip-shaped side skylights and indoor strip-shaped separated roofs also evoke the "Silk Road". The spatial curved grid roof structure supported by steel tube concrete columns faithfully depicts this image. Urumqi International Airport is an important hub facing Central Asia and West Asia in China, and is one of the gateway airports for the eight major regional international aviation hubs in China.
The Innovation Forum for Sustainable Development of Building Structures is held every two years. Since its first session in 2021, and now its second session, it has become an important academic platform for industry peers to exchange technology and collaborate on development.
